Week 2
Today is the day that I start carpentry! I will try to make a sword and shield. I hope that they can speak english, or I won’t be able to understand them. I went to the crepe place uptown! They have the best crepes in the city (that I know of). I got the ham & cheese crepe for dinner, and the nutella, whipped cream, banana, and caramel sauce crepe for dessert. It was very good!
I had my first carpentry class today! It was not as good as my carpentry class in Oyster River because it does not have as many tools. It only has a jigsaw, a drill, and a table saw. My old school has a lot more. I moved to a new house! It is much bigger than my old one and about the size of my one back in New Hampshire. It has a hot tub, but it is covered up, and it has a nice open garden INSIDE the house. I think that I liked the other house more, but that might be because I stayed there for longer. I am writing this at “The Earth Lodge,” which is a nice outdoors place that you can rent rooms at. I am staying here for 2 days and nights. They have a sauna, a playground, a dart board, and a giant stash of games! I moved from a tent to a cabin on the second day, and it is a very long hike to get from here to the mess hall. There is a “Bop-It!” game here and I dominated two of the three high scores! We also played “Taboo”. That is where you try to get people to say a word without saying certain words. It is very fun! (can any of you figure out what a “Female Frisbee” is? If so post it in the comments!) ;)
Niko, I bet your sword and shield will be splendid, like the Spanish conquistadors' . The people of Guatemala (like the rest of the Mayan Indians) were very brave, and it took the Spanish almost two centuries to defeat them! This was 500 years ago. Gramma Dugan
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNiko,
ReplyDeleteI love your writing and sharing your adventures. I assure you that despite the limited tools for your carpentry class it was far more exciting than sitting in a classroom. I am up at sugarloaf and Hayden Robb and Riley will come tomorrow morning. It sounds like you are having so many adventures and new experiences! Take it in my friend....Durham is marching along at the same pace as it was when you left! Go forward and learn my brave conquistador. We miss you and think of you everyday. Keep writing so we can live vicariously through your adventures!!! I will show this to Hayden tommorrow when he gets here so he can write back.
Thank you!
DeleteHayden, I look forward to hearing from you!
Hello Niko and family! I love the blog and I can't wait to see all of your adventures this fall. IThe Earth Lodge sounds like a nice get-away but I don't think I would ever leave a house that had a garden in the MIDDLE of the house...so cool!
ReplyDeleteIt was very cool!
DeleteThank you!
DeleteIs a “female frisbee” a discus? That was the first thing to pop to mind. Or an Aerobie?
ReplyDeleteI had NO idea what the word ment, so I just said the first word that popped into my head.
DeleteSo did I guess correctly that it was “discus”? Did the others guess it?
DeleteHint: it's a throwback word, but not as far back as "discus".
DeleteNone of the others have guessed it.
DeleteThank you for guessing!
DeleteBoomerang?
DeleteIt is a "diskette!" Thank you for guessing!
DeleteAh, yes. That makes sense. That’s a good clue, but I still didn’t guess it.
DeleteThank you!
DeleteIt looks like a lovely spot where the picture was taken. Who’s that kid next to you? 😉 I haven’t heard you mention him much.
ReplyDeleteHe is my brother.
